Sharing what I know

Few days ago I had few of my friends over for a little beginner’s photography 101 workshop. Trust me, I know I’m no master photographer but three of my friends just happened to ask me if I could teach them how to take better photos all within a matter of three days. So I thought, I’ll just have all of them over at the same time, go over some basic things and make it a fun get together. And fun it was.

I taught them how to pick up their camera, take the lens cap off and turn it on. Haha! j/k.

We talked about composition, ISO, aperture, shutter speed, white balance and seeing and using the available light in whatever environment you’re in.

I wish we had more time because it was a lot of fun and it would have been nice to go outside to take some photos. But we’ll just have to wait until next time.

I really enjoyed sharing what I know and a lot of what I know really is what I learned from others. So I’m just humbled that my friends would ask me to help them and so I am happy to share.

I hope everyone else had fun and learned at least one thing that helped take better pictures.

Thanks wifey, Mark, Hye Joon, Annabel and Hemi!

Here are some photos from our time!

Peter Bang - Thanks Mike. I learned the most at some of the workshops and seminars that I went to like Zack Arias', Hyon Smith's. And putting into practice what I learned. There are links on the side bar of some of the people that I learned from.

One of the best advice that I ever got by Bob Davis was shoot, shoot, shoot!

A good intro book that i also read was a book by Scott Kelby calle The Digital Photography. http://tinyurl.com/5d4epq

I would love to know if you had any specific questions.December 3, 2008 - 10:20 pm

Wow. Really wish I could have been there for that. Especially how to deal with low-light situations. In looking over a lot of your shots, I can see you've really mastered the use of light and shadows.

Any particular online tutorials or books you'd recommend for this?December 3, 2008 - 1:19 pm

Peter Bang - wow, i'm humbled. i'll plan another one and let you all know.
