While I lived in Korea having the last name “Bang” was never a big deal. In fact, Bang isn’t a common last name and in Korean history Bang was a common last name among peasants unlike royal families who had last names like “Kim” and “Lee”. Nobody really cares anymore so no big deal.
After I came back to the U.S. my last name started growing on me. All my high school coaches and some friends called me “Bang-Bang”, and most friends liked the sound of “Peter Bang”. I thought to myself cool! I have a name people can easily remember.
Then I when I entered the working world I realized people often don’t think someone really has a last name Bang. So I would get mail and fax sent to Peter Pan, Peter Ban, Peter Bank, Peter Chang and this is the best…Peter B. They were probably thinking what? Bang? no. Oh well, I’ll just put down Peter B.
Since then when I’m on the phone sensing the other person is unsure I always say, “Bang! as in BANG! BANG!” It works.
Anyway, my point in all of that was to say God has a really great sense of humor. Because my first child was born on the 4th of July! Her due date was actually July 11 so were getting ready to have fun with 7-Eleven but she came early to come out on the 4th. I think that’s so fun. Our 4th of July weekends are always going to be extra special.
Well we celebrated her 4th birthday on July 4th, and we had a great time with family and friends. She is growing really fast and I even joked on my twitter on her birthday that I’m gonna get a shotgun and start cleaning it.
She is turning into such a sweet and mature girl already, and I love her so much and I am so grateful for her.
Here are a couple of pictures, and I dumped a bunch of photos on flickr.
Here’s my boy picking the sprinkles.
