Little League Baseball Game

Here are some pictures from my nephews’ little league baseball game I shot recently.

It was a great game where my nephews’ team came back to win it 8-7 in the last inning with 2 outs, after being down, 6-1.

So proud of two of my nephews who played. My oldest nephew came in to pitch while they were down 6-3, and didn’t give up any runs, while my rookie nephew from India who just started playing baseball ignited the come back by getting on base with a walk in the last inning with 2 outs.

It was my first time shooting a sports game, and I enjoyed the challenge. I immediately noticed the difference of shooting a wedding vs. sports. There was no difference in the fact that I was still documenting in my own style, but the biggest difference to me was having to keep my ISO higher even in the bright afternoon, in order to keep the shutter speed fast to freeze the action. If you care to learn more about basic photo techniques, you can visit my photo tips blog.

The other thing I noticed was the 70-200mm lens out in the sports field felt so small. The 200mm is better than nothing but not good enough for close-ups. No wonder you see sports photographers on the sidelines with huge 300mm, 400mm and 600mm zoom lenses.

One of my favorite parts of the game was that the team names were their sponsors.:)It was funny seeing my daughter crack up when she heard parents cheering, “Let’s go Car Wash! Come on Car Wash!”.

Way to make a comeback, Family Car Wash! And good game, Michael Jordan Nissan.

Enjoy the photos and welcome spring!

A 2 run homerun that made it 6-3.

Great sports photos! I am trying to figure out my style of photography (beginner!). I will save this post for when I have to take pix of my son at sports events. He’s only 2 so I have lots of time to practice :) . By the way, you spoke at a NIST Photo Club meeting, so that’s how I know about your blog.

Glad you follow the blog, Lisa! Yes, it was great speaking at NIST. I’m planning some photo lessons locally in the near future, so let me know if you’re interested. I’ll keep you in the loop. Thank you!
