Life in 85mm

I was thinking the other day that it’ll be a fun to start documenting my family’s life using the 85mm lens. We’ll see how long this lasts:)

The main reason is because I like the results I get from the 85mm lens. The second reason is that it’s the last lens I purchased and I want to get better at using it. I think one of the best ways of improving your photography skill is to work with what you have and master it. It’s very easy to think that you need the latest equipment to be a better photographer but that is a lie. So try taking pictures with whatever equipment you have right now and master it!

If you’re starting out and need some recommendations on what lens to get I wrote a post on some affordable lenses I’d recommend.

Here are few shots from Mother’s day with the 85mm and look for more “Life in 85mm” in the future.

In case you’re wondering I’m using the Canon 85mm 1.8 on my old Canon 5D. Not the newer Canon 5D Mark II.

Tommy Han - Peter, 85mm f/1.8 is one of my favorite lens too. And I completely agree with you in terms of being sucked into the “latest gears”. In fact, I bought my son(6) a Canon Rebel body to play around with few kit lenses. One of these days, I’m going to slap on the 85mm or even some of the kit lenses (18-55IS & 55-250IS) on that and see what kind of results I can produce. I guess I have a rebellious side in me saying, “prove to the world that it’s not just about equipment!!!” Btw, for your “Life in 85mm” project … are you PP-ing? Or just posting straight out of the camera? Just curious…May 13, 2010 – 11:22 am

I do a little post processing in Lightroom. Not much though. I first considered doing this project in all b&w but decided not to:)
