One of the favorite parts of my job is capturing genuine moments in life. This past Saturday I got to do just that. It was simply beautiful.
On my drive over to Great Falls Park in Virginia I was full of mixed emotions. I was nervous for Noah, nervous for myself that I could totally mess up and miss the whole proposal, praising God for the beautiful weather and thinking this is going to be one the best days for Courtney and Noah, smiling thinking about the day when I proposed to my beautiful wife, thinking how this day is an answer to so many prayers for Courtney and Noah’s family and friends etc..
I love Courtney’s reaction after the proposal and loved capturing their interaction with each other afterward. So genuine.
This is one of the first shots I took and I was thinking, “Oh no! She already spotted me and I just blew it!” I quickly pointed the camera the other way pretending to shoot something else and walked away. Later Courtney said after she saw me she was making fun of me saying, “Why is that dude pointing the camera this way when the falls are behind him?”Haha! Whew:)

Congratulations guys! So happy for you!

UPDATE!
We won! One of the six winners!
Thank you all for voting and supporting me all the way through!
My ad is at the top of the Love Nest section on the site. Refresh the page to see it.
http://brides.weddingchicks.com/

If you are a bride planning a wedding I’d encourage you to check out www.weddingchicks.com for resources and ideas.
Anyhow, couple days ago the lovely ladies at www.weddingchicks.com opened up a contest wedding vendors to win an ad space called, the Sweet Spot. All we had to do was to create an banner for an ad and let the public vote. Top 20 with the most comments advance to the second round then the top 6 wins a free Sweet Spot ad space! I thought it’ll be fun to enter so I created a simple ad using one of the images from Mary & Paul’s wedding.
You’ve been so kind to vote for me the during the first round and I got around 95 votes and advanced to the next round! I really didn’t expect much and was blown away by all the votes in the first round because I think I was in the top 5 at that point.
Well, round 2 starts from scratch all over again. You really helped me advance to the next round and my competitive spirit has kicked in! And a little competition is fun for me:)
So it’ll be awesome if you voted for me again by leaving a comment.
Here’s a link to mine for you to leave a comment. One comment = One vote.
http://www.weddingchicks.com/vote/24167/24167/
I suppose I should be fair and let you look at the other ads too:)

We got dumped by some serious snow here in the DC area this past several days. Definitely over 2 feet. And guess what? It’s snowing again as we speak. I happen to like snow so I’m not complaining.
Our power went out so we drove down to my in-laws to get snowed in with them. We all had such a good time and definitely built memories for all of us.
Day 1

Day 2

Day 3

It was a lot of fun being snowed in with the family and I highly recommend embracing the snow instead of complaining. Have fun with it! Make memories with the loved ones.
The funny thing is we’re getting hit with another snow storm today so it’s just crazy. So we’re snowed in once again.
By the way, speaking of loved ones…Today marks the 21st year since my dad passed away. I twittered my favorite pic of me and dad and thank you for all your comments on twitter and facebook regarding it. Well, this morning wifey thought it’ll be fun to recreate the photo so I did with the two older kiddos. What do you think?

This was a one of kind wedding! You remember Lauren and Jeremy from their engagement session, right? And remember when I told you their wedding was going to be unique? Well, it all went down last Saturday and it was quite an experience!
I love how Lauren planned the whole wedding to be so uniquely their own. She did not want to have a traditional wedding so she just started from scratch. Lauren is an artist and that’s what artists do right?
Wedding was held at the historic Weinberg Center for the Arts. There were no bridal party, no flowers, no traditional wedding gown or tux! What they did have was pop corn, candy, make your own trail mix bar, an espresso bar, dessert and a movie. And guests were asked to wear semi-formal attire inspired by decade of choice!
The ceremony included musical performances by friends and family, a brief message by the pastor, personalized vows that they wrote, ring exchange then a real first kiss. Like it was really their first time kissing each other. It was beautiful.
Lauren and Jeremy! Thank you so much for having me. It was truly an honor to be a part of their wedding.
It was also so great to see some old friends that I haven’t seen in a while and meet many of the family members. Thank you to all of you who stopped to chat with me.
If you’re wondering where Lauren got her wonderful vintage inspired 50’s dress, it’s from Dolly Couture. Be sure to check it out. All she has are vintage inspired short wedding dresses. http://www.dollycouture.com

This was the invitation. As soon I got this in the mail, I knew the wedding was gonna be awesome!

Thank you to Paul Barrios for coming out in the snowy weather to shoot with me. Check out his blog for some images from the wedding as well.

Here are some photos of my kiddos playing in the snow at our friends house in Michigan.

Haha! He wasn’t too happy about his sister throwing some snow on his face in the bitter cold! By the way, after coming back from our trip to the midwest I decided not to complain about the cold weather here in the DC area. Because cold here isn’t really cold;)

I loved how they became instant friends.

Our friends took us to Zingerman’s in Ann Arbor to pick up dinner and what a neat place with all sorts of good food.
During our road trip to the Midwest we visited our friends in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Despite the cold weather we played in the snow and the light was gorgeous as the sun was setting. Thank you for your hospitality and looking forward to visiting you guys again the future!

I’m on a roll here. More personal photos:)
We drove out to Chicago recently for a little family reunion at my sister’s place. 7 adults, 9 kids under one roof. It was so great to be together and all the children playing so well together brought us much joy. We celebrated birthdays, a trip the the Science and Industry Museum, girls tea party at the American Girl doll store, playing Wii, great conversations, and lots of laughter. We made some good memories.
Here are some photos and there are more on flickr.

All the ladies before they headed off to the tea party at the American Girl store.

Taking care of her new American Girl doll her aunt got her.

Here’s my brother-in-law, Dr. Fisher hard at work. Visit his blog, http://doctorfisher.com for health news and link to his radio show, “House Calls”. If you twitter, you can follow him on twitter as well.

As the youngest of three in our family I think it’s really cool to be able to get a photo of my mom holding our third child.

It’s been way too long since I posted anything of our kiddos. I’m so backed up on going through and posting our personal photos that my own family and relatives are threatening me;)
My excuse? I’m serving taking care of my wedding and portrait clients:D For real!!
I still haven’t finished going through photos from fall and winter but I recently dumped a bunch of photos on my flickr site but here are some of my favorites. And I still have more to post at some point.
Let me just say wifey and I love being parents to these three wonderful kiddos. They are a gift and we’re so grateful for them. We really don’t want them to grow up anymore but we have no control over that. So thank God for photography to capture our life:D

If you ever thought our household is all fun and games you were wrong;) Her little brother stole the stick that she was playing with so she’s running to daddy and of course I’m there to practice my “flower girl running down the isle shot”;)

This is a good representation of this dude who follows everything his sister does.

He wakes up once in a while with this alfa alfa hair:)

We slept in the living room Christmas eve and they loved jumping on the mattress Christmas morning.

Love this silly girl!

Happy New Year everyone! I hope Twenty Ten is a wonderful year for all of you!
I kicked off the 2010 wedding season with Heather & Joel. They are one of the most gentle and sweetest couple I’ve ever met, and their wedding was just as sweet. It was very intimate with close friends and family.
My fellow photographer friend Paul Barrios joined me for this wedding and it was a lot of fun.
Despite the cold temperature and 20-30 mph wind Heather and Joel wanted to go outside for some photos, and we lasted for about 7 minutes. I give mad props to Heather for braving the weather in her strapless dress and open toe shoes.
Thank you for letting me be part of your special day, and have some major fun in the sun!

Heather’s father who passed away was honored by Heather’s mother and her twin brothers carrying a photo of him down the aisle.

Sadly I haven’t had a chance to process or organize any personal photos lately that I’m backed up all the way to August. That includes photos of some of our newborn boy, Halloween pics when our kiddos were dressed up as Cinderella, a Pumpkin and Gus
, trip to the zoo, fall pics, and Christmas. Hopefully, I can get to them soon and share some with you.
Here’s a pic of me and my older boy I came across last night. It was taken on his birthday last month by my wifey and I love it! I love tickling him and hearing his laugh.

In case you were wondering, this was taken with the Canon 85mm f/1.2 L II lens at f/2.0 on my 1D Mark II N. I borrowed this lens for a week to test it out and it makes beautiful pictures as you can see. This photo is basically straight out of the camera. I just warmed up the white balance a little and sharpened it for web. The sharpness, color saturation and bokeh is wonderful. But the auto focus was painfully slow for me to consider purchasing this. For me the Canon 85mm 1.8 is the winner over the 1.2.
Here’s a blog post for hobbyist on some lenses under $500 that I’d recommend.
